April updates

OK, I've not updated the blog for a few weeks. I've not been feeling so well and life has been hectic....
Quick updates -

1. Gestational diabetes - yep, got it. 7 finger pokes, 4 insulin shots and lots of food everyday are supposed to be controlling it until the baby comes. Good news is that it should disappear immediately after birth.
2. New floors - yep, got em. All new carpet and new tile. Had to pack up house and move all the furniture around for 2 weeks, but it looks really good.
   
3. Visits from Mom and Dad - Glenn was out of town for a week and then out of commission with a hurt back for another week so Mom and Dad took turns coming to stay with me and Parker. It was very helpful for me with the not feeling good and the stress of getting new floors. Dad cooked, cleaned, laundered, drove me around and packed up most of the house during his stay. Mom cooked, cleaned, laundered, unpacked and prepped the baby room during her stay.
4. New AC - yep, got that too. Found out on Monday that the upstairs unit was totally kaput. Got a nifty new, upgraded model installed on Thursday and we're back to a cool 68-69 temp. Parker and Glenn seemed to enjoy the warmer temps, but it didn't work too well for my preg body so I was sleeping downstairs on the couch and counting the minutes till it was fixed!
5. Goosey - had her follow-up xrays and tests from the Dec stone surgery. She is doing OK, but radiologist was concerned that there might be signs of another stone trying to form so we've modified her diet and added a second litter box. Hopefully we can head off another occurrence by watching her carefully. I do not want her to have to be in pain again.
6. Baby - still in my stomach. Seeing the doctors weekly now and have scheduled c-section for Friday, May 4. Thanks to Mom's visit, the nursery is now in usable shape and she'll have clothes to wear. (I am waiting on Glenn to put curtains up before taking any pictures....) Just pulling together a few last minute items and need to pack hospital bag this week. Oh, and of course, still need a name. Fear that we are going to have to fill out birth certificate with "Baby Girl Beck" if we don't get it hashed out this week.
   
7. Tom Meentz, the Gerbil - our latest addition to the family. Parker has been saving his allowance this year in hopes of getting a hamster and finally had enough money this weekend. He decided at the last minute to get a gerbil instead due to concerns about how well he and Goosey could handle sleeping in his room with a nocturnal hamster. We do not know if the gerbil is male or female, but we are going to choose to believe forevermore that it is male since Parker has named it Tom Meentz after his favorite Monster Jam driver (Tom Meentz is a 6 time world champion and drives Maximum Destruction).
