Parker's birthday party

Parker had a nice birthday party this weekend with his school friends. We went to Mammut for bowling, pizza and cake. I think all the kids had a good time. Afterward a couple boys came home with us for a sleepover. From the time we got home, Glenn and I understood none of their conversation. No clue what they were talking about, though they did switch back to normal long enough to excitedly tell us they'd networked their DS units so they could play each other's games. Fun times!

Lindsey had a great time!
We set her up on her own lane...this kept her completely occupied for the whole party.

Side notes about Mammut bowling party:
  • It was a bit challenging as the employees at the bowling center only speak limited english and I beselek kisci magyarul. But if you keep light-hearted, smile and be patient everything will work out. :)
  • You have to ask for everything -drinks, pizza, cake, etc. They will let you just keep bowling for a couple hours unless you initiate the pizza and cake.
  • I am used to American establishments that maintain a strict schedule for parties...not so here...our 2 hour party extended to 2.5 and that was with me pushing to get the pizza and cake faster! It's nice to not be rushed, but I didn't want the parents to be waiting so long.
  • Rushing achieved through negiotiations....server: pizza in 30 mins me: no, party will be over (display time on blackberry for emphasis), 5 mins? (hopeful expression) server: ok, 20 mins. Repeat whole sequence for cake.
  • I found an english info sheet about parties in the menu (while at the party). They didn't ever show it to me or give me any info, but you can just walk in and look at it.
  • You pay based on how many children come....so if unsure of count, add some as it will not affect the payment.
  • The chocolate and walnut cakes were both good.
  • Parents will need to cut and serve the pizza and cake. Best to double-team this or prep the pizza while the kids are still bowling.
  • Our server wanted a gift baggie -- bring extra if you're packing something a 20something guy might like. Ours was 3 mini chocolate bars (snickers, twix and bounty) and a cool bouncy ball.
